Iqbal Nasim


Chief Executive of the National Zakat Foundation

Iqbal has led the National Zakat Foundation since November 2011, a few months after its inception and launch. Since then NZF has collected almost £6.5m of Zakat for local distribution and now has over 20 staff across the country.

Prior to joining NZF, Iqbal worked for over five years in the investment banking industry as an equity research analyst in London. He holds an MA in Economics and Management from Cambridge University, where he was President of the Islamic Society, and an MSc in Voluntary Sector Management from Cass Business School.

Iqbal believes passionately in the transformational potential of Zakat when it is properly institutionalised. He has spoken extensively about Zakat and NZF across the UK and has also presented to international audiences, notably at the Global Donors Forum, convened by the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists, and the World Islamic Economic Forum.

Trustees

Sultan Choudhury

Sultan is CEO and Director of Al Rayan Bank. He has over 20 years of professional and financial services experience in the UK. Sultan is a member of various Community and Government advisory groups and has contributed significantly to the development of Islamic Financial Services in the UK.

He was a founding member of UKIFS (UK Islamic Finance Secretariat), a body which promotes the UK Islamic Finance industry. He previously held roles at Charles Schwab Europe, Barclays Private Bank and Deloitte. Sultan holds a BA (Hons) in Economics & Econometrics and an MBA.

Azim Kidwai (Chair)

Azim currently works as Mercy Mission World's Chief Marketing Officer. He is responsible for planning various campaigns across the globe and is in regular consultation with the marketing functions in all Mercy Mission countries.

Prior to working for Mercy Mission, Azim worked in various Communications roles across Primary Care Trusts within the National Health Service (NHS). In this period Azim helped to deliver the world's first Adaptive Media Campaign in healthcare.

Azim is inspired by his peers, and is committed to developing and maturing relationships from across the spectrum of Islamic organisations to add value to responding to the needs, desires and aspirations of contemporary Muslims. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management capabilities and a Six Sigma Blackbelt.

Ibrar Majid

Ibrar works as a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital with a specialist interest in Paediatric Major Trauma and Limb Reconstruction. He has been working in the charity sector in the UK for over ten years, in various roles including as a founding trustee of both Mercy Mission and NZF. He is also the current chairman of Doctors Worldwide, an international medical NGO.

Ibrar is an alumnus of an NHS Clinical Leadership Fellow scheme and has worked on several programmes related to leadership and service delivery. He regularly runs workshops and seminars on personal development, self awareness and leadership both nationally and internationally, and is a fully certified MBTI practitioner.

Tariq Surty

Tariq has over 20 years experience in the information and media sector, helping organisations define and deliver change. He utilises core project and programme management best practices to enable organisations to more effectively and efficiently understand and achieve their core objectives. Over the years Tariq has brought this invaluable experience from the private sector into the third sector and has helped to empower them to be more effective.
