Most people know NZF for the support it provides to help the poor and needy. To date NZF has distributed over £3 million of Zakat funds in the UK to families and individuals in desperate need. This represents a significant milestone not just for NZF, but for the entire UK Muslim community. We now have a Zakat institution addressing the needs of UK Muslims who have a right to Zakat and an established collection service for Zakat payers who want to pay their Zakat locally in accordance with the Prophetic tradition. NZF is keen to use this landmark to engage with the very people who helped us to achieve this and is committed to serving Zakat payers as well as recipients. Please take five minutes of your time to feedback on NZF's Services for Zakat payers by completing this short survey.
With the increasing number of applications from Zakat recipients, the demand on NZF’s services has grown significantly. NZF is looking for a new, dedicated, skilled and committed Caseworker to join our experienced Zakat Distribution team based in our Head Office in London. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of dealing with people in hardship or crisis and offering long-term, sustainable solutions to a wide range of cases. If you think you can make a difference, apply today.
Not everyone has the luxury of having a hot meal. In Winter, this is particularly challenging for the impoverished and the destitute who may also be going without heating or even sleeping rough. In January, we ran a series of blogs as part of our Winter Campaign to highlight the cases of applicants who reached out to NZF for help. The month ended with the seven day Cold Food and Drink Challenge, an activity to raise awareness and vital funds to assist brothers and sisters for whom heating and eating are not guaranteed and remains an everyday struggle. Thank you to everyone who took part. If you would like to sponsor #TeamNZF, you can still do so here.
NZF at the British Muslim Awards
The British Muslim Awards, now in its 4th year, took place this year in Birmingham. NZF was the official charity partner and would like to thank the event organisers and attendees for inviting us to be a part of it. As the awards are a celebration of the achievements of the Muslim community, NZF delivered a presentation to share the impact it has had to date and the potential of local giving to transform the UK Muslim landscape. If you missed the event, take a look at the best moments captured from the evening here.
Your Zakat at work
For the last few years, the number of applications received by NZF during the Winter months has doubled reflecting the reality of the need of those in our midst. January has continued that trend with NZF processing 161 applications and distributing £75,040.24 of Zakat funds to the most needy.
As temperatures in the UK dropped below zero, NZF was presented with an influx of urgent and emergency cases. Read some of the ways that seasonal changes have affected the most vulnerable and needy on our blog.
